This is a powerful piece of investigative research. It brings clarity and facts to a horrendous moment in our very recent history. I will use it to update my White Paper on the October 7, 2023 Jihadist Massacre and to make certain that these facts make their way into what is being taught in K-12 classrooms.
We know how much any hudna with Hamas is worth… nothing… I believe Hamas will reject this lifeline and on January 21, eradication of Hamas will commence..
To me, one of the more stunning aspects of fallen human nature, is how easily, and quickly, we can forget lessons of life - from the simple to matters of critical significance.
This is one of the principal reasons that ‘history repeats itself’, often with tragic results.
One could use this point as a provocative mental ‘springboard’ to venture in many directions. But, at the end of the day, where does it leave us? Pretty much in the same place the ancient Prophets of Israel found themselves; bound by honor and love to share the truths they were given with others who, for whatever reason(s), not only refuse to accept their messages, but attack the messengers. And then, to continue sharing, out of love and concern for their people, bearing the heartbreak of knowing what the consequences of such stubborn foolishness would be.
As we are guided, empowered, and sustained by the Spirit of G-d, may we be such people of honor and loving faithfulness in a world seemingly designed to constantly test, and thereby strengthen, our faith.
Sheri, as you so eloquently put it recently, the whole nation of Israel seems to be faced with an impossible "Sophie's Choice" in this grave matter. Whichever "choice" Israel makes will come with great cost now, or in the future, yet only Israel can stop this seemingly endless cycle of hostage-prisoner exchanges, and only Israel can - and must - destroy Hamas once and for all.
Thank you for this reminder. Mourn. Remember. Ignore the mocking from your enemies seeing you grieve; it’s more alive and defiant to continue as you always would, than to refuse to let them see your humanity. Apparently they have none. Don’t bend to be like them, stone-hearted, destroying their own families in a never-ending cycle of hate: their own daily desolation. Candle flames throw no shadow. One tiny light in a totally dark world can be seen for a mile; think what a nation fired up to blaze for the world will do.
I have been drawn to read Zechariah for at least 2 weeks now, so much that I wrote a post about it last Sunday, my day of rest and meditation.
It’s a wonderful trumpet blast of hope and strength to God’s faithful in times of desolation. I just thought I’d pass on some of that energy.
I have a copy of the English Tanakh buried somewhere after our last move but my favorite Bible is a dogeared taped together written-inNIV translation which I was given by a bookstore owner after my home burned down with my youngest girl trapped in it, rescued by firefighters. It made local headlines 2 days running and it was a miracle nobody was even burnt or suffered smoke inhalation let alone died.
Ch8: vs3-5 (but the whole chapter and much else is water to a parched throat):
‘This is what the LORD says: ‘I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the
LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.’
‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age. Then the city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.’…and it continues, so refreshing. I love the image of the old folks with their canes.
Yes, it’s at the time presaging return from exile, but there’a lot else for much later as well.

This is truth.
So very sad. No deal should be made. All hostages should be freed immediately.

amen
Thank you for this Sheri…

amazing comment.....and so sad
the video at the memorial where they’re singing hinei ma tov 🥲
So devastating - what choice does Israel have when hostages are dying in terror tunnels? we are forced to repeat history.
I would like to think we could rise above it and, with all at stake, make the difficult decision

Powerful words.

Always hope.
That is beautiful. Thank you.
