Regarding the video boasting about “9,000”, unless I’m missing something (like the rest of the video that provides some actual context) I don’t think I would draw any inferences (and comparisons) without more specific information. I don’t speak arabic so maybe that provides the context?
I'm not sure I understand your comment. The context is that 9000 Alawites were allegedly massacred in two days. The point of my comparison is the glee and pride that the man in the video shows over this massacre. I understand Arabic and the English subtitles are accurate. I compared that with the pride and glee the Gazan showed when he called his parents to announce his murdering ten Jews. The link goes to that call for which there is also an English translation of his words. What am I missing?
I have recently posted reflections on Theo Padnos memoir of being imprisoned by the terrorists who now run Syria. He shared cells with or was next to many imprisoned Alawites. They all told him there was no hope for them to survive the Sunni Islamists. https://anarrowbridgeburning.substack.com/p/the-dream-of-a-caliphate-isc5
I’m not trying to nuance this or split hairs. After reading your post I googled the subject and saw an article that said 9000 alawites have fled to the Russian military base in Syria to avoid sectarian violence (while mentioning that hundreds have been killed in sectarian violence)
The video doesn’t clearly say that the 9000 refers to anyone being killed. It’s all vague so I would be hesitant in forwarding this to other people. That is why I asked the question I did not feel comfortable because the video is not definitive on anything. if you think I’m trying to defend the Syrian perpetrators you’re misunderstanding where I’m coming from.
Obviously, assuming it is referring to 9000 people being slaughtered, (and he was gleeful about it)then it is sickly similar to the Hamas video.
Thanks for explaining your point. And I get it. Haydar said that 8-10K Alawites were killed and that man said 9000. But perhaps he WAS referring to 9000 running away and we know that many ran across the river into Lebanon where there are fish but not sharks. There are sometimes sharks in the Mediterranean (a man was killed by one in Israel just this past weekend) so it is a bit confusing what he means.
I will follow up and make corrections to the article if corrections are needed.
OK. I am now reading an article published on Substack by a man who was in prison in Syria for two years. He write this:
"A feeling of delectation pervades some of these crimes, as if the perpetrators want it to be known that they are smacking their lips. The person in this video has just received news of 9,000 people killed in the regions traditionally inhabited by Alawites. “This is a real number for sure,” he says, clapping his hands in delight. “Nine thousand of those fine tasting [people] from the coast are … finished, done. Happiness. Now even the fish in the sea, and the sharks are thanking us.”
So it seems that 9000 were actually killed. Perhaps the discrepancy is explained by "the fog of war."
OK, so the article that I was referencing, the title of which is embedded in the link, https://www.tehrantimes.com/news/510922/9-000-Syrians-Alawites-fleeing-violence-have-taken-refuge-at ) is strangely coincidental that the tehran article referenced the same 9k number. I’m not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but I wonder if Terhan was providing cover for the 9k slaughtered. (9000 are not dead.-they’re hiding on a Russian base)
Your first question is spot on. Last night I watched "Mosul", it's retaking from ISIS. I followed that with "Raqqa", a movie about journalists documenting the ISIS takeover of the city. Both in Arabic with subtitles.
The cold brutality of ISIS beggars understanding. These guys are pure evil and right out of the pit. Hamas is cut from the same cloth. The sidelinig of the Sunnis by Assad was likely a ticking time bomb.
Indeed, what were the Alawites thinking? Did your contact mention the foundation for trusting the Sunnis? Hope?
Horrendous. No other words to describe it.
You ask the right questions. Sadly, the no one has the answers. So tragic and sad.

I am waiting for two people to get back to me and see what they say. It is curious that there are not more reports of the massacre(s).
